Sarah Kendrew Sarah Kendrew selects interesting and notable ResearchBlogging.org posts in the physical sciences, chemistry, engineering, computer science, geosciences and mathematics. She blogs about astronomy at One Small Step.

Summing up complex research in a few short sentences is a great skill, and Sarah Kavassalis is excellent at it. She gives a whirlwind overview of some notable new physics and astrophysics research of the last couple of months on The Language of Bad Physics.

Computers are indispensible in scientific research today. But are humans? Greg Fish looks at a recent paper describing how a computer was successfully trained as a lab assistant. An interesting post on automation of research that raises a number of important technical and ethical questions.

On Sciencetext, David Bradley has written a nice post on an innovative zero knowledge-based scheme for user identification that’s more secure than a simple ID and password combination. And compared with existing zero knowledge systems it speeds up authentication around 1000 times. Sounds great.

Thanks for the posts, and I’ll be back with more selections next week.
