  • Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has become more of a problem as it is causing infections in people who have not bee hospitalized. Slow culture-based methods for diagnosis are being replaced by molecular methods for detecting the gene responsible for drug resistance – but even these have their limitations.
  • Before the DNA coded was deciphered, there were numerous hypotheses on how a code of four bases could be translated into twenty-one amino acids. One discarded hypothesis, that the genetic code is overlapping, can be  revisited today in silico.
