He writes about viruses at <a href=”http://www.virology.ws” target=”_blank”>virology blog</a>.
  • A number of DNA viruses take advantage of host epigenetic modifications, including histone proteins that are necessary for the structure and modulation of chromatin. The question of whether RNA viruses that replicate in the cytoplasm can interact with host chromosome structures is underscored by the observation that dengue virus replication depends on interaction with histone proteins.
  • It has been suggested that immunization against the 2009 H1N1 pandemic influenza virus might have triggered new cases of narcolepsy. Examination of medical records of Beijing patients indicates no connection between narcolepsy and influenza vaccines, but natural influenza infection might trigger the syndrome in vulnerable individuals.
  • Inside host cells, bacteria are protected from unpleasant things such as antibodies that in tissue fluids, and they have access to ample food. But there is a catch: how to infect other cells and hosts?

I’ll be back next Friday with more selections.
