Editor’s Selections: Big Headed Toads, Know Your Goat Relations, And Firefly Fury

smalljarrett2Jarrett Byrnes focuses on posts in ecology, environmental sciences, and evolution. He blogs at I’m a chordata, urochordata!

  • New work shows that big-headed omnivorous toads provide a novel insight into evolutionary responses to competition within different populations of the same species. It seems that the same response can indeed evolve multiple times.
  • Zen takes on a recent study on whether firefly signals are a predator deterrent, concluding the authors’ claims are overblown. I admit, I haven’t seen too many researchblogging posts that are really critical of papers (at least in the Ecological realm). I think the reasons for this are varied, and have to do with how blogging and one’s professional life can overlap. So I’m delighted to see this careful well thought-out response.

Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between usability and appearance. I must say you’ve done a very good job with this. In addition, the blog loads super fast for me on Chrome. Exceptional Blog!
