Jackdaws breed in loose colonies, and unusually for corvids, in cavities in trees, cliffs or buildings. Taste sense is important in all vertebrates as well as for many invertebrates. Evolutionary pressures rewarded those animals that could distinguish toxins from nutrient source, and physiology has made those things we need taste good to us.
